VISIT HERITAGE

The Ziarat of Baba Reshi is a popular shrine of Baramula, situated near the Alpather Lake at 13 km from Gulmarg and belongs to Saint Baba Payam-Din. Baba Payam-Din was a well-known Muslim saint as well as a courtier of the king of Kashmir, Zain-ul-Abidin. This shrine is that very site where Baba payam-Din died in 1480 after spending his days in prayer and meditation. The main feature of this shrine is the grave of Baba payam-Din, covered with a sheet of cloth decorated with unique workmanship. The shrine is popular for granting the boons to its devotees. Devotees that get their boons granted, revisit this shrine, to make grateful offering in honour to the great saint.

Drung is a small village on the road to Gulmarg barely 3.5 km away from Tanmarg town and almost 42 km fro Srinagar. It is famous for its waterfalls, caves, an ancient temple, Ferozpora Nallah, and a small hydropower plant. The village is sparsely population and one can get a glimpse of the old architectures in the village. The people are kind and curious. Activities around Drung is still organically pursued and hence to preserve their customs and traditions, the tag of an eco-village became necessary.

Summer and winter are both great times to visit the location because it is open year-around and looks stunning regardless of the weather. During summer, tourists and the locals visit Drung to go horseback riding, seeing fast-flow streams, waterfalls, caves and an ancient Hindu temple that is just few steps away from the waterfall and is believed to have been built by the Pandavas.During winter, Drung’s frozen waterfall is the most popular site. One can make a day trip out of it. It is a man-made waterfall created by the powerhouse’s water exit channel.

Sranz remains an unexplored tourist destination despite its potential to attract tourists because of it scenic beauty. The waterfall is located in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district about 5 km from the well known Baba Reshi Shrine. The Sranz waterfall situated in a bowl-shaped valley surrounded by lush green forests, open meadows, landscapes and mountains is a perfect getaway for adventure lovers. The untamed roads allows one to walk through the scenic views towards the waterfall; evidently well worth all the efforts. It originates form the Affarwat mountains and the Alpather lake in Gulmarg.

One of the many unexplored regions of Jammu and Kashmir, Botha Pathri is a mystery of a place in itself. The tourist spot in Jammu and Kashmir, also known as Nagin Valley had been set open by the Tourism Department in May 2012. The destination had been closed to the visitors for over a period of 22 years. Botha Pathri is a lush meadow that is located at a distance of 10 km from Gulmarg and about 5 km for the LOC under the Affarwat range in Western Kashmir. It is nestled in the beautiful Nagin Valley of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district. Botha Pathri is the only place in Kashmir for camping that is accessible by road. The pristine location and its fast-flowing streams offer a perfect getaway. It is part of the Gulmarg Biosphere Reserve and the area is popular for its blue pines, deodars, lush alpine meadow, and animals such as musk deer, leopards, red fox, hangul (Kashmiri stag), and others. The climate is quite wet which results in lovely blooms all year round. Horse riding is a popular activity in Botha Pathri. One can also visit the Shrine cradled in the heart of the meadows of Botha Pathri.

Situated about 9,000 ft above sea level, the mist-shrouded meadows of Botapathri were favorites among trekkers before 1990.

By November, the weather reaches the sub-zero range with progressively strong winds. It starts to snow by the end of November and by December, Gulmarg is covered in thick sheets of snow; making it hard to move out of your room without sunglasses on a sunny day. Snowfall in Gulmarg usually starts in early December, lasting until mid-February. However, Gulmarg Ski Resort is usually covered in snow until late March, sometimes mid- April.
Absolutely! Gulmarg Ski Resort offers many options for beginners skiers. The resort has specially designed areas for novice skiers, with gentle and wide slopes, perfect for safely learning the basics of skiing. Additionally, Kashmir Ski School is a part of Gulmarg Ski Resort that offers lessons for all levels, including beginners and children, in group or private settings. You can benefit from the expertise of instructors who will teach you the basic ski techniques and accompany you in your progress, adapting to your needs and pace.
Skiing is an exhilarating spot and it requires practice and dedication. Given the zeal you have in you, we suggest a week-long ski course for beginners to understand and attune themselves to get the hang of it. However, we offer Ski courses that run even longer or shorter depending on your time and convenience.

Our basic ski courses begin at a 5-day long course and go up to 2 weeks or more.

Contact us directly for more details on your requirements based on your level of expertise.
In our opinion, the best time to learn skiing is from the month of December till the end of March. Usually, by the end of March, Gulmarg Ski Resort is shut down by the authorities. However, they extend it if the snow conditions are good, safe, and stable.

The snow conditions are excellent and Gulmarg receives 6-7 feet of snow at its best. About 5 feet of snow is pretty common and stable during this time in the winter.

Gulmarg backcountry receives 5 meters of snowfall or sometimes more between the months of December and February.
Our ski course charges start from INR 4,500 per day for a private instructor. The pricing is inclusive of pick up and drop from your hotel to the slopes. A basic ski/ snowboard package starts from 25,000 inclusive of a ski instructor, accommodation, food, and transport. Ski gear and equipment are to be rented separately. However, if you own your own gear, that’s even better.

If you opt for ski packages that include accommodation and transport, the prices can vary depending on the services you book. For ski rental charges, please check our Ski Shop.
